Twice in UK, once in Amsterdam and with this year’s edition, The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards will be taking place in Europe for the fourth time scheduled for June 23-26, 2016.
The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards takes the Indian film industry to a new global destination every year to honour artistic and technical excellence of professionals, while also offering them a break from their hectic schedules. And this year amongst the tough competitions like the USA, Macau and Abu Dhabi, Spain emerged as the choice of destination to host the 17th edition of the awards. With this Europe will be hosting these awards for the fourth time. Bollywood or the Indian film industry enjoyed and entertained the audiences in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia that hosted the IIFA awards last year.
“We are extremely excited to announce that IIFA 2016 will travel to Europe again. We had been working on Madrid for many years and as 2016 marks the 60 year friendship between India and Spain, we feel this is the right time to showcase our culture and Bollywood there,” Andre Timmins, Director, IIFA and Wizcraft, told PTI.
“We zeroed in on Madrid because we feel that the place is best for our industry. We also have been welcomed by the mayor of Madrid, who is hosting us here. It’s just the right time,” he added.
The venue for the awards target to reach out to the Latin American market for Indian films and famous Bollywood actors like Hrithik Roshan, Sonakshi Sinha and Anil Kapoor are already creating awareness about the international award ceremony in Spain, which will be held in IFEMA convention center, coinciding with the popular Mulafest celebrated in the country. Apart from the millions of spectators at the venue, the show also attracts a wide viewership on television and internet from across the globe.
“Beautiful day in Madrid, exploring the city and getting it buzzing for IIFA with Hrithik and Anil Kapoor,” tweeted Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha.
