Pushkar, located in the Ajmer city of Rajasthan (north Indian state) is not only known for its religious sites and spellbinding locations but also for its colourful stalls, the decorated camels and its beautiful people.

A visit to the tiny rugged city of Pushkar in Rajasthan led us to capture the colourful lives of the humble and ever smiling people, who live in this desert land. The state is rich in traditions and cultural practices, and overwhelming for the senses in many ways. It surprised us with its captivating sights, intoxicating fragrance of its food and the general rustic aura around.

We witnessed the charm of the countryside, the people and their lifestyle, and made some portraits providing a complete backdrop of their brightly coloured saris, odhnis (strip of cloth); their everyday ornaments; some aged and painted faces in the crowd; men in equally colourful turbans.

People of Rajasthan are well known for their warm and friendly nature and belong to several sub-ethnic groups, with the whole community known as marwaris (from the Marwar region of Rajasthan).
