World Tourism Forum 2016 Africa, the Promised Land

World Tourism Forum 2016 will be held from February 4-6 in Istanbul in Turkey. Africa will be the flavor of the forum as leaders of the tourism industry from all around the world gather.

World Tourism Forum was established with an aim to deliver value to the tourism industry by presenting a platform to discuss socio-economic, cultural and technological aspects of the world tourism industry.

The forum global meeting is held once a year and the second summit of the forum is scheduled for February 4-6 at Istanbul Lütfi Kirdar International Convention and Exhibition Center.

Nearly 100 prominent experts and members from the tourism industry along with industry investors, political authorities, non-governmental organisations and tourism authorities will come together under one roof to network, negotiate and define tourism trends of the future. Approximately 7,000 people are expected to attend the meeting that will be focussed on Africa, which is the new market in the industry and is considered as the ‘Davos of Tourism’.

Discussions about destination marketing, tourism investments, online, medical, retail and sustainable tourism, effects of politics on tourism, luxury concepts, international sports organisations, MICE (meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions) industry, tourism and media, tourism and innovation, technology and smart investments will be held at the summit.

The summit will take place under the chairmanship of Bulut Bagci, president of the World Tourism Forum. José Manuel Barroso – former president of the European Commission, Basaran Ulusoy – the president of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB), Mahir Ünal – Republic of Turkey Minister of Culture and Tourism, Sani Sener – CEO of TAV Airports Holding, Mark Tanzer – CEO of ABTA, Dimitrios Arhondonis, Bartholomew I – the Ecumenical Patriarch of Eastern Orthodox Church and Archbishop of Constantinople, and István Ujhelyi – the vice chair of the European Parliament Committee on transport and tourism, will be the speakers at the global meeting.

Also, ‘Oscars of World Tourism,’ which are generally known as the World Tourism Awards, will be held at Çiragan Palace on February 5. Close to 1,000 guests are expected to attend the event where awards in more than 40 categories will be given.
