15-year-old wicketkeeper and batsman, Pranav Dhanawade, set a world record through scoring over 1000 runs in a single inning in cricket.

Pranav Dhanawade set the record while playing an inter-school cricket match at the Union Cricket Academy ground in Kalyan, near Mumbai, in Maharashtra,. The match was held between KC Gandhi HS School and the Arya Gurukul, when Dhanawade became the record holder for the maximum runs scored in a single inning.

The cricket tournament was organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association, where Pranav created history by hitting 1009 runs in 327 balls, with 129 fours and 59 sixes. His school, henceforth, declared a result of 1464/3, thus setting the record for the highest team score ever.

Dhanawade’s father, who is an autorickshaw driver, told The Indian Express that although money is a major concern but he never lets that come between Pranav and his game. He works extra hours to be able to bear the cost of the equipments his son may need to play the game. Additionally, Pranav’s coach, Mobin Sheikh, doesn’t charge anything to coach him, which is a great support to them. The Maharashtra government too offered to extend financial support to Pranav for his talent and abilities.

Pranav started playing cricket when he was 5 years old and aspires to play internationally and become a cricketer like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of the Indian national cricket team.

Great cricket players like Sachin Tendulkar, Dhoni and Shashib Singh congratulated Pranav on his achievement. Jolted by Pranav’s performance, Dev Dutt Sharma, a cricket coach in Delhi told MIG, “This is phenomenal. Scoring a 1000 at this age is excellent and the boy must be really talented.”

Pranav says that though he missed out on the chances to play for under 14 and under 16 teams, he wants to play for the under 19 team and then for the Ranji Trophy.

With such talent, dedication and support from his parents and coach, Pranav has all the necessary ingredients to achieve his dreams.
