Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE), one of India’s leading television media and entertainment companies, launched a Spanish-language Bollywood movie channel, ‘Zee Mundo’ targeting Hispanics audiences in the US.

Zee Mundo is a premium HD movie channel. It will entertain the Spanish-American audience with modern Bollywood cinema, dubbed in Spanish. With a viewership spread across 171 countries, Zee initiated to showcase the Bollywood movies in Spanish  through the medium of a television channel.

“Both the markets share strong cultural similarities in terms of family structure, socio-economic conditions, food, music, art and culture. We are confident that Zee Mundo’s programming will cross frontiers with storylines and themes that are relatable to the Hispanic audiences,” said Amit Goenka, CEO, International Broadcast Business at ZEE, reports Economic Times.

Zee has a huge number of TV brands, such as Zee TV, Zee Cinema; international brands Zee Cafe, Zee Studio; and sports brands Ten Sports, TEN Cricket etc. It also has channels in Indian regional languages such as Zee Marathi, Zee Bangla and others.

Across genres and geography

The channel will air Bollywood movies of all genres, like Race 2 (La Carrera 2), thriller; The Tragedy of Haider (La Tragedia de Haider), crime; English for Beginners (Inglés para Principiantes), comedy; Rebel in the Palace (Rebelde en el Palacio), romance; and Chennai Express (Una travesia de amor), drama, among others.

Bollywood movies are already well known in several non-Hindi speaking countries like Nigeria and China for their extravagant action sequences, song and dance numbers, and vibrant costumes.

With success in the US Spanish market, the company aims to expand to other Latin American markets including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Chile.
