Turkey is still struggling
While the country tries to rise above the political unrest in the country and repeated terrorist threats, the tourism industry feels the pressure of both. The hotels have dropped their usual rates, the restaurants have seen empty tables and the streets devoid of people. However, with a very strong intent, the government is pushing tourism as a medium to propagate their message to the world. In his opening note to the event, the Prime Minister, Binali Yıldırım said, “Turkey is as safe as any other country in the world. Things happen in countries such as the United States, France or Germany as well. Travellers have not stopped visiting those countries; then why Turkey?”
Yildrim was assertive and poetic at the same time when he was describing how the beautiful turquoise Bosphorus flowing through the heart of the city of Istanbul along with the people eagerly awaits tourists from the world to come and notice the quintessential aspects of Turkey. “I want you to go back and tell your countrymen that you are back from a country that is a perfect blend of culture, gastronomy and picturesque locales waiting to be rediscovered,” he added.
