European skill delegates brought to India by EIFE
India is the world’s youngest country, with 64 pc of the population in the working age. Approximately 70 million additional individuals of working age (aged between 15-59 years) are expected to enter the country’s labour force by 2023.
Abundant in human resource, the Indian mainland is bubbling with skilling opportunities.
Indian skill ecosystem is potentially a strong market globally, eyed by leading economies. Probing into the opportunities this ecosystem has to offer, a nine membered unique delegation from top notch skilling organisations of France, Germany and Russia visited India recently. Many fruitful discussions between the European delegates and the Odisha government and its training partners were organised by the Brussels-based Europe India Foundation for Excellence, during the visit in Odisha. A workshop focusing on sectors like manufacturing, textile, construction, healthcare & hospitality and a visit to various skilling institutes in Odisha was also organised during the same period by EIFE in collaboration with ORMAS, the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society.
From Odisha, the delegates headed to the national capital, New Delhi, where EIFE organised meetings with top officials of skill development in the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), officials from the Maharashtra government as well as with the Union Ministry of Rural Development. The Delhi visit also included a day-long workshop and B2B networking meeting with the relevant sector skill councils and some leading training institutions from the National Capital Region.
The principal objective of the programme organised by EIFE is part of its activities over the past six years to build a platform of bringing together various stakeholders in the world of skill development from across the world, notably Europe, and India to identify potential areas of collaboration and then immediately get to working together. The visit concluded on a successful note with the European delegation willing to assess the trainers and training centres based in India and assist them in coming par with the latest technologies.
The European delegation would also be conducting Training of Trainers in key sectors across India as an initial activity.
