This not-for-profit festival is devoted to the appreciation of Indian cinema and culture. It showcases films from one of India’s leading cinema industry, Bollywood, supports emerging film-makers, recognizes the leadership of the entertainment industry’s performers and business executives and promotes the diverse perspectives of the Indian diaspora.
The stage is set and the host country is ready to celebrate its biggest Bollywood festival for the 14th time. “Bollywood festival Norway’ is the European country’s biggest Bollywood festival since 2003 and will be celebrated from September 9 to September 16 this time.
The festival will showcase 26 films from India, Pakistan and Iran including ‘Dhanak’, an award winning movie set around a brother-sister duo that embarks on a road journey, ‘Haramkhor’, a story of a romantic relation between a school teacher and his student, ‘Kabali’, ace Indian star, Rajnikanth’s latest release, ‘Aligarh’, a story of a professor who fired from his job because of his sexual orientation.
Besides other Indian movies like Waiting and ‘Raman Raghav’, banned Pakistani film “Maalik” will have an exclusive screening and Iranian movie “My Father’s Love Story” will also be shown.
Industry veterans and musical nights
Yesteryear Indian actress, Zeenat Aman, and Huma Qureshi, a bollywood actress will attend the opening ceremony of the annual Bollywood festival.
Aman will be the chief Guest of Honour this year for this festival held in the Scandinavian region and would be accompanied by her son Azan Khan who is making his Bollywood debut as a film director with ‘Bankster’ which will be screened at the festival on the opening day, September 9.
Every year Bollywood Festival Norway puts together events like Bollywood musical night and Bollywood dance evening.
The year 2015 saw performances from artists Jassbir Jassi, Jai Shankar and Taz-Stereo Nation. This year, British singer Tanya Wells, will pay a tribute to Pakistani singer Mehndi Hasan and playback singer, Suresh Wadkar will perform live at the festival’s Bollywood musical concert.
