Bollywood takes over Guinness Book of World Records

From film Yaadein in 1960s to the recent Baahubali

With Bollywood being one of the largest film industries in the world, Indian cinema has been delivering some of the most record-breaking performances over the years, many of which, found their place in the reference book – the Guinness Book of World Records.

Bollywood has existed for more than 100 years now and witnessed numerous benchmarks set by various films and Bollywood personalities, many of which have been honoured for their unique achievements.

Here are some of the Guinness Book of World Records held by Bollywood films and personalities over the years.

Fewest actors in a narrative film


The 1964 film Yaadein (memories), stars only one actor throughout the duration of the movie – the late Indian actor/director Sunil Dutt. The only other actor in the film – Nargis Dutt, appears just for the final scene that too in a silhouette. The movie was the first-ever one-of-a-kind-film in world cinema, featuring only a single actor and hence found an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records under the category ‘Fewest actors in a narrative film’.

 

Maximum number of songs recorded in one day
The voice behind many popular songs of the ’90s like ‘Tujhe dekha to’ from the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), ‘Chura ke dil mera’ from Main khiladi tu anari (1994), and ‘Jab koi baat bigad jaye’ from the film Jurm (1990) – Kumar Sanu, the Indian playback singer, recorded 28 songs in a single day in 1993.

 

Most number of awards for a movie


The 2002 movie Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (Tell me that you love me) was added to the Guinness Book of World Records for winning the most number of awards for a movie. Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai won a total of 92 awards.

 

Most recorded artist in music history


Asha Bhosle – the Indian playback singer, recorded up to 11,000 solo, duets and chorus backed songs and several others in over 20 Indian languages as of 2011, when she made an entry to the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist in music history.

 

Largest screen family of Bollywood


The famous ‘Kapoor’ family of Hindi cinema has been in the record book since 1999. More than 24 members of the extended Kapoor family have acted in films since Prithviraj Kapoor – a pioneer of Indian theatre and Hindi film industry – first took to the screen in 1929.

 

World’s largest poster

 
Indian director SS Rajamouli’s film Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), has the Guinness World Record for making the largest poster of more than 50,000 square feet. The poster covers an approximate area of 51,598.21 ft² and was achieved by Global United Media Company Pvt Ltd (India) in Kochi, India, in 2015.
