With its strong presence in South India, Singapore based low-cost carrier Tigerair has been enticing Indian flyers with its innovative deals, services and consistently looks out for expansion opportunities.
Small is beautiful and it is beautiful in aviation industry too! Fare war is not merely limited to Indian low-cost carriers but global lowcost airlines are also trying their hands to entice Indian travellers, one such being Singapore-based Tigerair. People travelling from Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi and Tiruchirapalli to Singapore can avail enticing cheap fares, offered by Tigerair. Hoping to corner a chunk of the Indian travel market share, Tigerair has been taking continuous efforts to entice Indian travellers with great deals.
Strong presence in South
Through offering innovative airfare deals, reliable services, top-notch safety and quality standards, an extensive regional network and, most importantly, value-for-money products; Tigerair plans to build a distinct brand presence in the minds of the Indian consumers. Ever since the carrier started its operations in India in 2007, Tigerair has had a great start. It experiences a healthy load factor across all our five destinations in South India, which have been mentioned above. “Owing to the positive response and market demand, we introduced two additional weekly flights on the Chennai-Singapore route. The rapid expansion that we have gone through in India, is testimony of our successful growth pattern in the Indian market,” says, Teh Yik Chuan, director – sales and marketing, Tigerair.
The budget carrier is currently focussed on strengthening its existing network. “However, we have taken note of the untapped potential that the various markets in India have and are constantly on the look-out for expansion opportunities. Having said that, any further expansion plans will be subject to market demand and regulatory approvals,” adds Chuan.
Offerings for Indian flyers
Expansions depend on response from customers and for this, Tigerair has many value-added services to entice Indian travellers. “Our quality product and great value for money offerings that empowers customers to travel and explore, makes it a popular airline of choice among Indian fliers. Additionally, our value-added services and products for our travellers, such as, Tigerconnect and our mobile application – which enables our travellers to have a hassle free travel experience, contribute to Tigerair being a preferred travel option,” avers Chuan.
Tigerconnect is a product available for Tigerair passengers, which offers a seamless transfer facility for travel beyond Singapore without having to clear immigration or retrieve baggage. It gives the option to make only one booking to purchase two connecting flights throughout the network. A travel visa for Singapore is not needed. For flight connections under eight hours, baggage transfer has been incorporated in the flight purchase for hasslefree travel experience. Tigerconnect passengers transit in Singapore and have at least five hours to spare before their connecting flight can register for a free two-hour sightseeing tour of Singapore – with a choice of a colonial tour or cultural tour. This means that Indian passengers can explore two destinations in one, without any additional visa cost. Transit visa is at the discretion of immigrations and checkpoints authority of Singapore.
“We have always strived to offer the most attractive fares for our Indian travellers. In order to achieve this, we constantly get into collaborations with different brands which help us provide unique promotional offers for our esteemed passengers,” adds Chuan.
Airline’s financial health in India
Amid competitive market, where every next low-cost airline is fighting for major share of Indian traveller, Tigerair has been performing quite well. Chuan says, “India has significantly contributed to Tigerair’s global profits, which is why we consider India as a strategically important market. We don’t look at what our competitors are doing and rather focus on what we can offer to our customers in India.”
Plans for 2015
Having great response from the Indian market, the airline has strong plans for 2015. Currently, it will focus on its existing operations. “We are extremely optimistic about our presence in the Indian market in 2015. India has a lot of unexplored potential for air travel and there are many regions that are currently underserved. The number of Indians travelling by air is increasing at a tremendous rate and we aim to take advantage of this trend during the year. We are constantly taking note of expansion opportunities and will take concrete steps after looking at the market demand and regulatory approvals,” concludes Chuan.
