The fourth edition of Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo (XSRITE) was held in north-west China’s Shaanxi province from August 4-6, with the aim to provide an ideal one-stop business-to-business networking platform for international and domestic tourism and travel industry players.
The fourth Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo (XSRITE) in Xi’an city, was held at Qujiang International Conference and Exhibition Centre from August 4-6. Xi’an, the capital of north-west China’s Shaanxi Province, is the place of Silk Road’s eastern starting point and origin of the Chinese cultural identity.
Exhibitors and visitors from around 32 countries and regions attended the three-day expo that aimed to construct a platform for people from the tourism industry and the public to communicate.
The opening ceremony of the tourism expo was attended by distinguished guests including China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) chairman, Li Jinzao; Cambodian tourism minister, Thong Khon; UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) executive director, Zhu Shanzhong; Governor of Shaanxi, Hu Heping; Chairman Han Yong of Shaanxi People’s Political Consultative Conference; Deputy director Liu Xiaoyan of the Standing Committee of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress; and Wei Zengjun, vice governor of Shaanxi.
Organised by Shaanxi Provincial Commission for Tourism Development, the theme of the expo was ‘Cooperation and Mutual Development along the Silk Road’, that highlighted the image of Shaanxi as a world-class cultural tourism hub, and served as an international platform for the exhibition of cooperation and exchange between and services for tourism professionals.
“The expo is very important for us because first – china is one of our main markets, number one in terms of tourists arrivals in Indonesia, and secondly, this expo is not only for the Chinese market, but also for the world market. For example, I can see a lot of buyers from India, America and from other Asian countries,” said Igde Pitana, Deputy Minister for International Marketing, Ministry of Tourism, Republic of Indonesia.
With an exhibition area of 40,000 square metres, the event brought together 500 travel agencies, tourism enterprises, airlines, cruise companies, tourist attractions and tourism media outlets, 400 professional buyers and approximately 60,000 public visitors from China and abroad.
“This is the first time we are participating in the expo, and we feel it is a good platform because we see more professionals and journalists are coming. We hope great success and also to participate next year,” Amy Cheng, Business Development Manager, Jordan Tourism Board.
During the expo, 2017 China Hot Spring Innovation Forum and High-end Forum of China’s Camping Industry were also held, providing a platform for business insiders to communicate and seek cooperation opportunities. New exhibition halls for recreational vehicles (RV) and hot springs tourism were also added for this year’s event.
Kingdom of Cambodia was the guest of honour at XSRITE 2017. “Cambodia forever supports the issuance of the Belt and Road initiative,” said Thong Khon, minister of tourism of Kingdom of Cambodia.
Divided into four exhibition zones: zone dedicated to local tour operators; a zone for Chinese tour operators outside Shaanxi and overseas; the hot spring tour exhibition zone; and the exhibition zone dedicated to the self-drive tour and recreational vehicle camping – the expo is an important platform in promoting the tourism industry.
This year, XSRITE shared latest ideas and fruits of tourism development, introduced latest business forms such as hot spring and self-drive tours, exhibited higher-quality products and launched more targeted marketing services to better serve tourists.
Moreover, the event also emphasised on joint construction, sharing, and win-win cooperation to form international collaboration by sharing resources, and tourism prosperity along the Silk Road and in the rest of the world.
