With an aim to boost the tourism potential in the Indian market, Mega Maldives Airlines will start direct flights connecting the national capitals of India and Maldives this month.

Mega Maldives Airlines will start its non-stop flights to Male from New Delhi from November 15. The flight has also introduced a special inaugural fare of INR 23,500, for the first two flights on November 15 and 18.

Flight number LV 305, New Delhi to Male will be operational on Tuesdays, Friday and Sunday, whereas flight LV 304, Male to New Delhi will be operational on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

His Excellency, Ahmed Mohamed, Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to India said, “We are very excited to start a direct flight from New Delhi to Maldives. This is a very good step considering that a large number of Indians travel to Maldives every year for vacation. During January-August this year, there has been a 21.4 pc increase in Indian tourist inflows to Maldives.”

George Weinmann, founder and CEO, Mega Maldives Airlines’ said, “India is one of the largest growing economies in Asia and is right on the doorstep of Maldives. Maldives has a long relationship with India in business and tourism. Our job as an airline is to connect people and connect the markets. That is what we are going to do.” He also remarked that the carrier expects to start direct flights connecting Mumbai and Male next month.

The brand new Boeing 737 Aircraft has two seating configuration of 150 economy and 12 business-class seats. One can book the tickets through an easy Reservation System Login Access, upfront payment or by paying through BSP. The airline flies to China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia and Japan.

Air India, the national airline of India, has also started a direct flight AI 263 from New Delhi to Male via Thiruvananthapuram.

As connectivity to Maldives from India is getting better, an Italian cruise company Costa neoClassica is also launching a weekly cruise which has a capacity to accommodate 1,700 passengers, from Mumbai to Maldives on December 16. The cruise will operate until March 18, 2017.
