Taste wines, sip the sparkling cavas, pass through vineyards, savour seafood; come this October and rejuvenate in a gastronomically-rich Spain.
Savouries like wine and cheese are often synonymous to European delicacies, especially in the peninsular country of Spain. This southern European destination is a culinary melting pot with traditions of food and drinks passed down through generations. And these inherited recipes and gastronomic cultures have been celebrated for long at food festivals.
The food safaris of course offer an array of drinks and delicacies to savour but also activities like horse-riding through vineyards, visits to traditional vineries, relaxing wine therapy treatments, wine tasting sessions and much more.
The month of October is packed in Spain, with fests happening all around and each one a treat sweeter than the other.
Seafood festival O Grove
From October 6 to 16
Experience the seafood Festival in O Grove, the municipality of the Galician Rias Baixas, an inlets town. This cultural and gastronomic event dates back to 1963 and takes place every October. It highlights the basic pillars of this costal town’s economy – fishing and tourism. The staging of this culture along with the traditional seafood makes the festival a charmer for both locals and tourists.
Utiel Gastronomic Festival
From October 21 to 23
The place to be for gourmets and gluttons, the Utiel Gastronomic Festival, tables authentic Spanish food for its visitors. Local produces and products from the region of Utiel, a municipality in Spain, are at display along with a range of wines. Visitors also get to sample wines of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO). PDO covers agricultural products and food stuffs which are produced, processed and prepared in a given geographical area using recognised know-how. The fest will also conduct cookery shows and tasting sessions among other activities.
Lleida Wine Fest
From October 22 to 23
Known for diffusing the wines produced in the Lands of Lleida, an ancient city in Spain’s north-eastern Catalonia, the fest sees more than 25 exhibitors and 70 wine references of Designation of Origin (DO). Lieida, a town in the district of El Sergia, organises this fest every October. The gastronomic delights also include delicacies from Lleidan restaurants. The guided tours that happen around this time are a chance for the visitors to explore the heritage of the area.
A country united by fine food and wine and a home to oenophiles, hosts similar festivals all year round. The cultures and celebrations that circle around Spanish cooking and wine tastings might as well be the finest of culinary experiences a place can offer. Weaving the fabric of the place, the fests are tourists’ delight.
