A new restriction will change how devotees access major temples in Tamil Nadu, with mobile phones prohibited inside designated premises from September 1. Visitors may have to deposit devices at counters.
In a press statement, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE ) Department says that restrictions are aimed at reducing disruptions and maintaining discipline inside temple complexes, particularly in sanctum areas.
The statement adds HR&CE has also instructed temples to prevent photography and video recording of deities, as well as reels and other recordings on temple premises.

Authorities says that the rules will apply to major temples across the state. The department has also says that permission should not be given for photography or video recording involving VIPs, public figures or film personalities inside temples.
The move comes as Tamil Nadu’s major temples continue to receive large numbers of devotees, particularly during festivals and auspicious occasions. Authorities says that controlling mobile phone use would help manage visitor movement and prevent unauthorised recordings inside sensitive areas of temple premises.
