The centre will strengthen defence equipment maintenance and operational availability in Japan
To strengthen its defence services operations in Japan, Thales, a defence and electronics firm, is opening its first services centre in the country, focusing on equipment maintenance and long-term support. The group also plans to increase its workforce in Japan by more than 16 pc by 2030.
In a press statement, Thales says that the Japan services centre will focus on maintenance, operational availability and long-term support for defence equipment throughout its lifecycle. It is expected to employ nearly 40 people by 2030.
The statement adds that centre will draw on Thales’ existing presence in Japan, where the group employs more than 150 people across defence, aerospace and cybersecurity. The company has operated in the country for more than 55 years.
Thales says that its workforce in Japan has increased by more than 11 pc since 2024, driven by recent contracts in the space sector and demand for defence and cybersecurity capabilities. The company plans to continue recruitment over the next three years.
The new centre will also support collaboration with Japanese small and medium-sized enterprises and startups, including through local projects and their integration into Thales’ global supply chain.
“The momentum of our recruitment in Japan and the opening of the Thales Japan services centre mark a new step in our commitment to our Japanese partners and customers. This reinforced proximity will enable us to be more available and more responsive, in support of the entire Japanese value chain, from major corporations to SMEs,” says Pascale Sourisse, Senior Executive Vice-President, International Development, Thales.
