The world of Bollywood stands poised to deliver yet another captivating array of cinematic experiences, several movies and series are lined up to release in May as Kalki 2898, Baby John, and Pyar Ke Do Naam, are some of the latest to hit theaters this month.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar 

Release Date: May 1

Heeramandi is a Hindi TV series helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali along with Mitakshara Kumar and Vibhu Puri. It marks Bhansali’s first digital debut with Netflix which stars Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Huma Qureshi, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadda, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, Tarun Arora, and Paresh Pahuja.

It is an epic, which tells the stories of courtesans and the hidden cultural reality of Heera Mandi, a dazzling district, of pre-Independent India. On the other hand, it is a pure historical drama, that highlights the life conditions and political background of courtesans and their patrons during the 1940s, it tells eight different stories in a full-length feature film style. After creating a buzz on social media, the filmmaker Sanjay Bhansali unveiled the teaser of the web series on February 18, 2023. This is one of the much-anticipated series of filmmaker Sanjay Bhansali, who is best known for his iconic films like Khamoshi: The Musical, Black, Devdas, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, and Guzaarish. Released in 2022, his last directorial project Gangubai Kathiawadi was a superhit at the box office.

Pyar Ke Do Naam

Pyar Ke Do Naam is a Hindi romantic drama written, directed, and co-produced by Danish Javed, known for Ishq Subhan Allah and I Am Not a Beggar.It features  Bhavya Sachdeva, Ankita Sahu, Namita Lal, and Kanika Gautam. It revolves around Aligarh Muslim University, where two scholars, Aryan and Kaira, clash over their beliefs in togetherness versus commitment during a prestigious peace seminar. The expression of the screenplay embodies the ideologies of Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi.

Srikanth

Shrikanth is a Hindi biopic film Directed by Tushar Hiranandani,  it features  Rajkummar Rao in the titular role, alongside Alaya F, Jyothika, Jameel Khan, and Sharad Kelkar.This film chronicles the journey of Srikanth Bolla, an Indian industrialist who founded Bollant Industries despite being visually impaired.

Tippsy is a Hindi drama-thriller, directed by Deepak Tijori,  and produced by Raju Chadha and Rahul Mittra.It features Esha Gupta, Nazia Hussain, Kainaat Arora, Alankrita Sahai, and Mandeep Kaur Sandhu in the lead roles, The movie depicts the story of a girl gang, who is on a vacation spree in Goa to enjoy a bachelorette party.

Kartam Bhugtam is a Hindi psychological thriller film, Directed by Soham P. Shah, known for films like Kaal and Luck. It features Shreyas Talpade and Vijay Raaz in lead roles, with Madhoo and Aksha Pardasany in the supporting roles.

The film explores ancient concepts of astrology and karma. The story revolves around the immutable laws of karma and destiny, deeply rooted in the ancient wisdom of vedic astrology. It offers a cinematic exploration of the belief that every individual’s actions inevitably shape their future. Kartam Bhugtam will have a nationwide release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages.

Chhota Bheem and The Curse of Damyaan | Superhero Live Action is a Hindi live-action film based on the popular children’s cartoon. Directed and written by Rajiv Chilaka, Niraj Vikram.The film features Yagya Bhasin in the role of Chhota Bheem, the film also features Anupam Kher, Makrand Deshapande, Aashriya Mishra, and Surabhi Tiwari.

It is the eleventh movie in the Chhota Bheem film series and the first movie to be released in theatres. The film was made under the Green Gold Animation banner in association with INOX Cinemas and distributed by PVR Pictures worldwide.

Bhaiyya Ji

Bhaiyya ji is a Hindi action-drama that marks the second collaboration between actor Manoj Bajpayee, director Apoorv Singh Karki, and producer Vinod Bhanushali, following their critically acclaimed OTT (over-the-top) film ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ (2023).

The film features Manoj Bajpayee in a rustic avatar. ‘Bhaiyya Ji’ narrates the tale of a man who defends his family’s honor and seeks retribution for the injustices inflicted upon them. The movie also stars Vipin Sharma, Suvinder Vicky, and Zoya Hussain.

Kalki 2898 AD is a Hindi movie helmed by Nag Ashwin known for his directorial works such as Yevade Subramanyam and Mahanati, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani.

It is an epic science-fiction dystopian film. It is produced by C. Aswani Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies. The film is produced in the Telugu film industry and is shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages. Inspired by Hindu mythology, the film is set in a post-apocalyptic world in 2898 AD. It stars Prabhas in the lead role alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Kalki 2898-AD is the first Indian film to debut in San Diego Comic Con’s prestigious Hall H.

Baby John

Baby John previously known as VD18 is a Hindi action drama film it is a remake of Atlee‘s Tamil film Theri (2016) directed and written by Kalees and produced by Murad Khetani,  it is a remake of Thalapathy Vijay’s successful Tamil film Theri.
The film features Varun Dhawan in the lead role, alongside Keerthy Suresh Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Sanya Malhotra.

The film revolves around an honest Police officer who is set to take revenge from a few corrupt politicians who killed his family, just leaving him and his daughter behind. The title of the film is inspired by the story as Vijay’s daughter addresses him as ‘Baby’ in the original film.

Mr & Mrs. Mahi

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi is a Hindi biopic directed by Sharan Sharma and produced by Karan Johar, will feature Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor, Rajesh Sharma, and Kumud Mishra as lead characters. This cricket-themed drama marks the second collaboration between Rajkummar and Janhvi, following their pairing in the 2021 horror comedy Roohi.

This film is inspired by the life of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Rajkummar portrays Dhoni, while Janhvi takes on the role of a character named Mahima.
