Recognising India as a key market, Brazilian aerospace company Embraer has outlined plans to develop a comprehensive local supply chain for its C-390 Millennium aircraft.

In a press statement, Embraer, which is bidding for a significant order by the Indian Air Force for its Medium range Transport Aircraft (MTA), says that its plans in India, which would be carried out in partnership with Mahindra Aerospace, potentially includes an assembly line in India.

The IAF is looking for a new transport aircraft in the 18 to 30-tonne cargo-carrying capacity to meet its growing airlift needs and could purchase anywhere between 40 to 80 aircraft.

In a press statement, Embraer says that India is a strategic market across all its segments, with over 44 aircraft in commercial aviation, executive jets and defence.

It adds that a key opportunity for Embraer in India is the Air Force MTA programme, where it aims to supply the C-390 Millennium in partnership with Mahindra, announced in February 2024.

It further adds that Embraer sees potential suppliers in defence, commercial aviation and executive jets for areas like aerostructures, machining, composites and software, recognising India’s aerospace capabilities.

The statement adds that a high-level delegation from Embraer is also concluding its visit to India this week. This visit occurs amid growing Brazil-India relations.

“India has a robust aviation and defence industry and we see strong viability for manufacturers and systems developers in India to be key suppliers to Embraer. We are driven by a common vision, which is to drive the aviation capabilities of Brazil,” says Roberto Chaves, Executive Vice-President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Embraer.
