Uttarakhand to host inaugural Tehri Acro Festival from Nov 24-28

This inaugural show is expected to host 20,000 visitors along with participants from across 25 countries

Said to be India's first International Aerial Acrobatic Show, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board is set to host the inaugural Tehri Acro Festival with participation from over 25 countries across the world.

Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has announced the launch of its inaugural Tehri Acro Festival from November 24 to 28 in event held recently in New Delhi.

According to a press statement by the bureau, the Tehri Acro Festival is set to be India’s first International Aerial Acrobatic Show. Over 150 paragliding, including approximately 35 international athletes, will be participating in the event in Uttarakhand along with an expected footfall of 20,000 visitors, transforming ‘skies of Tehri into a canvas of thrilling acrobatics.’

The organisers say that participants will come from across 25 countries. This includes India, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Lebanon, Turkey, Spain, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Iran, Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Mongolia, Taiwan, United States, Colombia, France, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

“We are thrilled to offer these training programmes to our local youth free of cost. Paragliding not only promotes adventure sports but also opens doors to new opportunities for employment. Our aim is to train over 100 skilled paragliding by the end of 2023,” says Tourism Secretary Sachin Kurve.

The statement adds that the UTDB has also inked an agreement with Paragliding Mantra, experts in paragliding, to provide comprehensive training to local youth. This initiative aims to train more than 100 pilots by the end of 2023. This will not only promote sports in the region and place Tehri on the global map, but also create employment opportunities for the local youth, adds the statement.

“As we nurture these talents, we are not just creating paragliders, we are creating ambassadors for Uttarakhand’s natural beauty. This initiative aligns with our vision to make Uttarakhand a hub for adventure enthusiasts, attracting tourists from around the globe,” adds Kurve.
