Farmers’ protest revives battle for democracy in India

As the world celebrates International Day of Democracy 2021, an ongoing protest in India could be a role model of how a peaceful yet persistent protest can be carried out in a democracy. Tens of thousands of farmers protesting against farm laws that the government has been trying to impose on them have not only earned global recognition, but also inspired other aggrieved and underprivileged sections of the Indian society to fight for their rights, in a democratic manner. The protest has already spawned thousands of other protests, on a smaller scale, across India.
