Pushkar Mela 2021 misses its soul

Held every year in the month of November, the Pushkar Mela had become synonymous with Rajasthan, at least for thousands of foreign tourists who used to plan their trips to India to coincide with the fair that had become ubiquitous to Rajasthan. Last year, the fair was cancelled due to the pandemic, but this year, the world’s largest camel fair was back, though in a highly muted format. Not only were there far fewer animals on display, but also the foreign tourists, who have become an important fixture of the event.
