Goa registers record tourist arrivals of 5.4 million up to June 30
With improved connectivity over 271,000 foreign tourists head to Goa
South-western beach destination Goa attracted a record over 5 million tourists from January to June, driven by strong domestic and international arrivals despite summer heat, boosted by improved connectivity and diverse tourism offerings.
Goa’s tourism sector reported unprecedented growth in the first six months, receiving a record-breaking 5.4 million tourists despite the traditionally lean summer period.
In a press statement, the Department of Tourism of Goa says that both domestic and international arrivals reached historic highs, reinforcing Goa’s reputation as one of India’s top travel destinations.
The statement adds that from January to June, over 5 million domestic visitors flocked to Goa, comprising the majority of tourists, while 271,000 international travellers arrived, driven by improved flight connectivity and heightened interest from Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
It adds that January registered the highest footfall with 1 million tourists, including nearly 70,000 foreigners, followed by February with 905,000, and March with 889,000. Visitor numbers remained robust through the summer with April, May, and June each recording more than 800,000 arrivals per month.
According to the statement, tourism authorities credit this surge to a multi-pronged strategy involving aggressive promotional campaigns in key national and international markets, participation in major travel exhibitions, and new Regenerative Tourism initiatives designed to diversify Goa’s offerings beyond its famous beaches.
Additionally, ongoing upgrades in airport, transport and hospitality infrastructure have supported this growth while maintaining service standards.
“This boom is the result of a multi-pronged approach adopted by the state. We have intensified promotional campaigns in key source markets, both domestic and global, participated in leading travel trade exhibitions, and launched innovative marketing initiatives under the Regenerative Tourism umbrella. These efforts have enhanced visibility and reinforced Goa’s image not just as a beach destination, but one that offers a diverse array of experiences, from hinterland trails and heritage walks to spiritual and wellness retreats,” says Kedar Naik, Director, Tourism.
