Dadasaheb Phalke Award
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was instituted in 1969 by the Government of India to commemorate Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema. It honours those with “outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema.” Recipients are chosen by a special committee for their sustained excellence, innovation, and ability to inspire generations.
In Mohanlal’s case, the award acknowledges not just his prodigious talent and vast portfolio but also his ceaseless commitment to advancing the craft, nurturing new talent, and representing Indian culture and cinema on the global stage.
“Cinema is the heartbeat of my soul. This recognition is not mine alone it belongs to everyone who has been part of my journey, and the entire Malayalam film fraternity,” said Mohanlal in his acceptance speech at the awards ceremony.
