Marking a step towards urban air mobility, technology company Siemens will support Bengaluru-based Sarla Aviation with digital engineering software to accelerate electric air taxi development before its planned 2028 debut.
In a press statement, Siemens says that Sarla Aviation is deploying the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio of industrial software to create an integrated digital engineering environment that connects aircraft design, simulation and product lifecycle management.
The statement adds that the approach will help reduce development time, improve engineering collaboration and support certification processes required for commercial operations.
Sarla Aviation is developing an advanced air mobility platform aimed at offering electric air taxi services for urban transport. The company plans to begin operations in Bengaluru in 2028, positioning aerial mobility as an alternative for city commuting.
According to the companies, the integrated digital thread enables engineering teams to share data across different stages of product development, reducing design iterations through early-stage simulation while improving traceability, verification and validation during certification, says the statement.

As part of the deployment, Sarla Aviation is using Siemens’ Designcenter software for aircraft design, Simcenter for simulation and validation, Capital for electrical systems design, Polarion for application lifecycle management and certification compliance, and Teamcenter for product data management and collaboration.
According to statement, the integrated software platform is intended to support the development of the aircraft’s electrical architecture, including battery management, power distribution and avionics, while maintaining data continuity across design, simulation and manufacturing.

The collaboration comes as companies developing electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft increasingly adopt digital engineering tools to shorten development cycles and prepare for certification before commercial deployment.
