The acquisition will enhance interoperability with NATO allies and strengthen Greece’s operational capabilities
The Greek Ministry of National Defence has signed a contract with Embraer, a leading Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, for the acquisition of three KC-390 Millennium aircraft for the Hellenic Air Force. The agreement, concluded through a government-to-government arrangement between Greece and Portugal, also includes options for the purchase of three additional aircraft, with the first delivery scheduled for 2027.
In a press statement, Embraer says that the acquisition will strengthen the airlift and air-to-air refuelling capabilities of the Hellenic Air Force, while enhancing interoperability with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) and allied forces. Greece will also benefit from European cooperation in training, support and logistics.

“We are honoured by Greece’s decision to acquire the KC-390 Millennium. This choice underscores the trust and confidence that leading NATO members place in our aircraft. This very important milestone further solidifies the aircraft’s position as a preferred solution for military airlift among NATO allies. The KC-390’s proven performance, reliability and cost efficiency make it an ideal choice for nations seeking to enhance their operational capabilities,” says Bosco Da Costa Junior, President and CEO, Embraer Defense and Security.
Greece becomes the seventh European country to select the KC-390 Millennium, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden. The acquisition reflects growing interest among European Union and NATO member states in the aircraft as they seek to strengthen their military transport and operational capabilities.
Beyond Europe, the KC-390 Millennium has also been acquired by the air forces of Brazil, South Korea, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates and Colombia, expanding its international presence across multiple defence markets.
