Textiles are one of Indonesia’s best known exports and a significant art form. Traditionally, spinning, dyeing, and weaving were the tasks performed by women and are still carried out by them. The textiles of Indonesia is diverse, from bark-cloth of eastern Indonesia to intricately woven tenun fabrics from Sumba. Examples of Indonesian textiles include batik from Java, to songket and ikat developed in many parts of the archipelago.
