Embraer delivers first C-390 Millennium to Hungarian Air Force
In a significant development for military air transport in Europe, Embraer has delivered its first C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft to the Hungarian Air Force, marking a significant milestone in Hungary’s defence capabilities and NATO’s operational framework.
In a press statement, Embraer says that the aircraft will be the world’s first equipped with a roll-on/roll-off Intensive Care Unit, enhancing its capability for humanitarian and medical evacuation missions.
Embraer says the aircraft will meet Hungarian Defence Forces’ needs, and is capable of various military and civilian missions such as medical evacuation, humanitarian support, search and rescue, cargo and troop transport, precision airdrops, paratrooper operations, and air-to-air refuelling.
The statement adds that the C-390 carries a larger payload than other medium-sized military transports, flies faster and covers greater distances. It handles missions like cargo transport, medical evacuation, firefighting, and operates on unpaved runways. It adds that the KC-390 variant can refuel or be refuelled mid-air.
It adds that the Hungarian C-390 fully meets NATO requirements, including its hardware, avionics, and communications systems.
It further adds that since entering service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019 and Portugal in 2023, the C-390 has demonstrated reliability and performance, accumulating over 14,000 flight hours with a 93 pc mission capable rate and over 99 pc mission completion, showcasing its exceptional productivity.
“The arrival of this aircraft represents a real milestone for the Hungarian Air Force as it will give the Hungarian Defence Forces unprecedented capabilities in military air transport. It is in Hungary’s security interest to have strong, well-equipped, modern defence forces and we are working on that. Embraer is an excellent partner in this,” says Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, Minister of Defence of Hungary
“This is a very special moment for Embraer, as we deliver the first C-390 Millennium to the Hungarian Air Force. This aircraft delivers an unbeatable combination of performance, flexibility and reduced life cycle costs, making it the airlift of choice in Europe. We are confident that the C-390 will add important capabilities to Hungary and we look forward to supporting the aircraft’s entry into service,” says Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO, Embraer Defence & Security.
