Five unique Guinness World Records by Indians
Indians are known to be colourful and diverse, and we are always on a record-breaking spree, with the motto, the more unusual, the better!
Indians are second to none in a lot of fields, be it technology, medicine, sports or business, and the same goes for holding unique Guinness World Records. Here’s a quick list of some amazing and bizarre records held by Indians.
Most Expensive Suit
The suit with the words ‘Narendra Damodardas Modi’ monogrammed on it as pinstripes, once worn by Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi has entered the Guinness Book of World Records in August 2016. A Surat-based diamond merchant, Laljibhai Tulsibai Patel bought the suit at an auction for over INR 43.1 million, making it the most expensive suit ever auctioned. The suit was worn by PM Modi during his meeting with US president, Barack Obama.
Largest Laddu
The largest individual laddu weighs 29,465 kg and was achieved by PVVS Mallikharjuna Rao, in Tapeswaram, Andhra Pradesh, India, in September 2016. The Tapeswaram-based sweet firm Sri Bhaktanjaneya Suruchi Foods made this laddu in a traditional boondi recipe. The laddu was offered to the idol by the Visakha Integrated Social Welfare Association at Gajuwaka, which is among the biggest idols in the state. The ingredients included ghee, refined oil, cashew nuts, sugar, almonds, cardamom and water. The previous record was an 11,115 kg laddu made by Arasuri Ambaji Mata Devasthan Trust in Ambaji, Gujarat.
Longest fingernails on a single hand
Shridhar Chillal, 78, has made it to the Guinness Book of World Records 2016 as the man with the longest fingernails on a single hand – ever. Chillal hails from Pune city, Maharashtra, India, and was measured in November 2014. He hasn’t cut his nails since 1952 and after 63 years, his nails measure an aggregate length of 909.6 cm. The nails are on Chillal’s left hand and have individual measurements of the little finger – 179.1 cm; ring finger – 181.6 cm; middle finger – 186.6 cm; index finger – 164.5 cm and thumb – 197.8 cm.
Largest plastic cup pyramid
Kushagra Tayal, 18, achieved his dream when he, along with 21 other students from Hansraj College, set a new world record for building the largest plastic cup pyramid in the world using 57,000 plastic cups. The 22 ft long pyramid was made at Thyagaraj Sports Complex in New Delhi. Earlier, the record was held by participants from Mexico, who used 42,395 plastic cups to make a 30 ft high pyramid in 2015.
Largest roti/chapatti
The largest chapatti is 145 kg and was made by Dagdu Seth Ganpati Sarvajanik Mahotsav, in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India in September 2012. The chapati was made on a metal plate measuring 3 m by 3 m.
