To boost investment in the tourism and hospitality sector in the state, Bihar Tourism holds an investment meet and roadshow in New Delhi.

Bihar Tourism Minister Nitish Mishra, along with a high-level delegation of senior officials of the state tourism department, held a roadshow and investment meet in New Delhi on Friday, inviting the business community in the national capital region to invest in the sector in the state.

In his address, Mishra promised support of the state government to the private sector interested in developing the sector further and showcased the state’s diverse tourism offerings, encouraging the business leaders to explore opportunities in one of India’s culturally richest regions.

According to a press statement by Bihar Tourism, the event attracted a diverse audience of businessmen, travel agents, tour operators and hoteliers from Delhi. The statement adds that the Bihar Tourism Department has introduced the Bihar Tour Operators, Travel Agency and Hotel Management Incentive Scheme 2024 to bolster tourism activities.

It adds that the Bihar Tourism Policy provides additional incentives for tour operators, hotels, and resorts. These include reimbursement of 5 pc of monthly remuneration for empanelled tourist guides, capped at INR 5,000 per guide per month for two years from the policy’s effective date. Additionally, organisers can receive GST reimbursement up to 50 pc of event costs or INR 200,000 per event, with a maximum of three events per year, held at recognised properties or sites endorsed by the Department of Tourism (DoT).

“Bihar is not only rich in heritage but is also developing rapidly. Come and invest in Bihar without hesitation, the government will support you at every step. We are organising investment sessions along with roadshows across the country, with the next event scheduled in Kolkata next month,” Mishra said at the meeting.

“Famous groups like Taj, Hyatt, and Sarovar have already invested here. Join us and you will receive direct subsidies and numerous other benefits. Being from Mithila, I assure you of Mithila’s warm hospitality,” he added.

“Substantial work is being done in terms of infrastructure across all tourism circuits in the state, coupled with policy-level enhancements, including subsidies and various facilities in the tourism sector. The positive outcomes are evident, and we are working to improve them further,” Abhay Kumar Singh, Secretary, Tourism, government of Bihar, said in his address.

“The new industrial policy of the Bihar government has created numerous opportunities for investors. This has significantly boosted industrial investment. Over INR 500 billion worth of MOUs were signed at Bihar Business Connect 2023, leading to increased investments in both general industrial activities and the tourism sector, thereby improving the overall landscape,” Kundan Kumar, Resident Commissioner, said on the occasion.

“In 2023, Bihar attracted 82.1 million domestic and foreign tourists. We are committed to further increasing this number. The event also featured presentations on Bihar’s new tourism policy and the updated status of tourist facility development,” Vinay Kumar Rai, Director, Bihar Tourism, told the audience.
