Domestic airfares rise by 16 pc for Diwali-Dussehra holidays
Domestic airfares have risen by 16 pc for this year’s Diwali-Dussehra holidays, according to Cleartrip, an online travel agency. This increase highlights a notable shift in travel costs due to the significant rise in demand and festive travel trends.
In a press statement, Cleartrip says that for Dussehra, 10.6 pc of last year’s total bookings for this period have already been made. For Diwali, there has been a 20 pc increase in bookings for October to December compared to the previous year.
It adds that airfares for major domestic routes during the Dussehra week, from October 12-18, have increased compared to the same period in 2023.
Cleartrip says that key fare spikes include 35.3 pc for Bengaluru to Lucknow, 17.6 pc for Delhi to Bengaluru and 17.4 pc for Bengaluru to Delhi. Other notable increases are 14.4 pc for Bengaluru to Patna, 11.4 pc for Kolkata to Bengaluru and 8.6 pc for Kolkata to Delhi. Bengaluru to Kolkata saw a smaller rise of 4.8 pc.
The statement adds that current fares per passenger for the top 10 routes during Diwali are, Bengaluru to Delhi INR 9,800, Bengaluru to Kolkata INR 8,500, Delhi to Bengaluru INR 8,400, Mumbai to Delhi INR 8,900; Bengaluru to Lucknow INR 9,000, Delhi to Mumbai INR 7,500; Delhi to Chennai INR 8,900, Kolkata to Bengaluru INR 6,500, Bengaluru to Patna INR 12,000.
Cleartrip says that airfares for the top domestic routes show significant variation between Dussehra and Diwali. For Dussehra, the fares are considerably lower compared to Diwali, with notable differences on routes such as Bengaluru to Delhi and Kolkata to Delhi.
It adds that current fares per passenger for the top routes during Dussehra are, Bengaluru to Delhi INR 7,200, Kolkata to Bengaluru INR 8,100, Bengaluru to Kolkata INR 8,600, Bengaluru to Patna INR 8,000, Delhi to Bengaluru INR 7,200, Kolkata to Delhi INR 8,400, Bengaluru to Lucknow INR 6,600, Delhi to Kolkata INR 9,000, Bengaluru to Indore INR 6,900 and Mumbai to Delhi INR 6,900.
