IIM Sirmaur celebrates National Tourism Day with industry leaders & cultural extravaganza

IIM Sirmaur marked National Tourism Day with a dynamic two-day event hosting industry leaders. The engaging sessions, collaborative initiatives, and cultural celebrations showcased the institute’s commitment to excellence and diversity.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sirmaur played host to industry leaders during a two-day event aimed at bridging academia and real-world expertise.

According to a press statement by the institute, the Industry Advisory Board (IAB) meeting, held on January 25-26, brought together leaders from top firms including IndiGo, American Express GBT, and Cordelia Cruises.

The statement adds that the collaboration saw a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights between the IAB members, faculty, and students, shaping the future of IIM Sirmaur’s MBA Tourism Management programme.

The institute says that the the inaugural day at IIM Sirmaur featured insightful discussions led by Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, and Sana Maidullah, member of the faculty. Industry leaders shared their perspectives on the trajectory of the tourism sector, actively contributing to the refinement of the academic curriculum. The event concluded with a commitment to strengthening IIM Sirmaur’s footprint in the tourism industry.

It adds that on the second day, a collaborative tree planting initiative at the permanent campus served as a symbolic gesture, reinforcing strengthened connections. A Career Enhancement Workshop facilitated meaningful one-on-one interactions between students and Industry Advisory Board (IAB) members, imparting guidance from the industry leaders. Furthermore, the campus played host to Shehaat, a self-help group, where indigenous Himachali food and handicraft items were showcased.

The statement adds that the day culminated in a vibrant celebration of Himachal Day, featuring a traditional Nati dance performance and the presentation of Chambal Thaal as mementos to guests, further emphasising the institute’s commitment to promoting local culture.

As part of the festivities, an IndiGo case competition challenged students to exhibit their analytical and problem-solving skills. The winning team received medals and certificates of appreciation  it adds.
