Le Méridien lights up Christmas with focus on sustainability
7 m Christmas tree with 300 kg e-waste for 'Consciously Festive'
Christmas festivities at Le Méridien, a luxury hotel in Delhi, began on Friday with a green touch as the hotel unveiled its 7-m high Christmas tree made of 300 kg of e-waste, putting spotlight on its ‘Consciously Festive’ theme.
To mark the beginning of the festive season, Le Méridien in New Delhi unveiled its ‘Consciously Festive’ Christmas tree, a 7-m installation created from 300 kilograms of responsibly sourced e-waste.
Le Méridien says it partnered exclusively with certified recyclers to transform discarded electronics into a striking symbol of sustainability, creativity and conscious luxury.
This year’s installation continues the hotel’s tradition of blending festive artistry with environmental advocacy. By spotlighting the urgent challenge of e-waste management, the tree inspires reflection on mindful consumption, reuse, and reimagination of materials otherwise destined for landfills.
The ceremonial lighting was led by Kimmo Lähdevirta, Ambassador of Finland to India, accompanied by his spouse, who together also unveiled the Advent Calendar. In his address, the Finnish envoy described Christmas celebrations in Finland, which is also the mythical home to Santa Claus.

Addressing the gathering, Finnish Ambassador to India Kimmo Lähdevirta recounted how Christmas is celebrated in his home country
“Over the centuries, decorating the Christmas tree has evolved from using fresh flowers, to paper flowers, apples, and gingerbread cookies, and finally to the ornaments we know today, and the decoration of the Christmas tree continues to evolve. That is why it brings such joy to see how Le Meridien New Delhi gives its Christmas tree a unique story every year. This tree is not just a decoration; it becomes a symbol of reflection and creativity,” said Lähdevirta.
“This year’s focus on e-waste through the ‘Consciously Festive’ campaign adds an especially inspiring dimension. Electronic waste is a growing global challenge, and addressing it requires imagination and responsibility. By turning the Christmas tree into a platform for awareness, the hotel beautifully shows how celebrations can also encourage care for our environment. It is a joyful reminder that festive spirit and thoughtful action can go hand in hand,” he added.
In a press statement, Le Méridien says that the evening also marked the launch of the hotel’s ‘E-Waste Drop Box’, encouraging customers and visitors to adopt responsible disposal habits. The statement adds that guests for the celebrations on Friday were welcomed into the Atrium for the Advent Calendar Reveal by Meena Bhatia, Vice President and General Manager, which contains daily surprises including exclusive dining offers, festive lobby moments, and seasonal treats.
“Festive installations should be more than ornamental, they should embody values. Each year, our Christmas tree becomes a canvas for sustainability, design, and craftsmanship. By upcycling materials and collaborating with artisans, we create not just beauty but meaning. This season, we are proud to once again present something unexpected, rooted in conscious luxury and shared with the city,” says Bhatia.
The statement adds that the hotel will carry the spirit of the season forward, continuing its festive celebrations through December 31, ensuring the joy resonates well into the new year.
It says that from December 10, it will also launch a ‘Christmas Hamper Showcase’ that presents a selection of artisanal hampers featuring gourmet treats, handcrafted delights, and signature Le Méridien favourites, ideal for personal, corporate, or luxury gifting.
On the occasion of Christmas Eve on December 24, it will host a buffet with live culinary stations, global favourites, seasonal specialties, and a live 3-piece band. Also on the cards is a contemporary Christmas-eve dinner with an à la carte menu blending modern Indian cuisine with live instrumental melodies as well as other programmes including Christmas brunch and Christmas dinner. The hotel has also organised New Year’s Eve celebrations and a festive stay package for the period December 23-25.
