GKN Aerospace says that it has already designed, developed and delivered fully certified additively manufactured components that are currently in flight
GKN Aerospace, a global aerospace technology company based in Sweden, has secured independent, industry-recognised validation of its L-DED-w manufacturing processes, supporting the wider adoption of the technology in aerospace production.
In a press statement, GKN Aerospace says that it has already designed, developed and delivered fully certified additively manufactured components that are currently in flight. The accreditation is expected to help accelerate the integration of further L-DED-w applications into full aerospace production.
Nadcap is an aerospace industry accreditation programme for special processes, validating whether manufacturing processes meet stringent requirements for quality, traceability and process control.

“Our customers are looking for trusted partners that can help industrialise advanced manufacturing technologies. For additive manufacturing, that means having robust and repeatable processes that can support the move into industrial production. Nadcap accreditation is an important step in that journey, giving us a stronger foundation for broader application of L-DED-w across aerospace and defence,” says Sébastien Aknouche, Senior Vice President, Material Solutions, GKN Aerospace.
The accreditation followed a comprehensive audit covering GKN Aerospace’s process controls, operating procedures, personnel qualifications, equipment, material control and traceability.
Additive manufacturing enables the production of complex aerospace components while reducing material use and expanding design possibilities.
