Industrial site visits are available for delegates of PBD 2017, offering an insight for the Indian diaspora into the blossoming IT, biotech and aerospace industry, among others.

As Indian and international delegates from across the world head to Bengaluru, the capital of southern Indian state of Karnataka for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in the first week of January 2017, industrial visits are being offered to them. As a chance to have a direct and first-hand experience of the workings of particular industries, optional visits are being offered to the delegates, by the government of Karnataka.

Different routes for the industrial visits are being offered to delegates, with two dates, January 7 and January 10 being marked on the calendar. Out of the four interesting routes on offer, one is the visit to the Bangalore Bio-innovation Centre and Infosys, Electronic City in Bengaluru. The Bangalore Bio-innovation centre is a state-of-art incubation centre catering to the needs of start-ups in the broad areas of Life Sciences. It was formed by departments under the Karnataka state government as well as with help from the Indian government.

The visit to Infosys headquarters in Electronic City is a great chance to get a glimpse into the thriving IT industry of the city. Bengaluru, nicknamed as the Silicon Valley of India, is home to the most prosperous Indian IT companies, which the Indian diaspora will get a chance to explore.

The government of Karnataka and NASSCOM Startup Warehouse, a space for entrepreneurs to learn, work and accelerate their companies is also part of another proposed visit, with a special visit also to the Centre of Excellence for the Internet of Things. At present, the Startup Warehouse Program is operational in Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Pune, Kochi, Vizag, Delhi, Chennai, Noida and Gurgaon (virtual warehouse).

Mobile 10x-Accelerator project will be expecting to interact with the PBD delegates to discuss investments, market connections and explore the possibility of partnerships.

Bengaluru as a top choice

There is also a visit planned to the International Tech Park Ltd (ITPL) and Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP), in the Whitefield area of Bengaluru. Additionally, a route has been planned to explore the aerospace and precision manufacturing component industries in Hitech, Defence and Aerospace Park, near the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The industrial visits are showcasing the strengths of the city to the Indian diaspora coming to PBD 2017.

The Karnataka government has highlighted why Bengaluru is a top destination for investment and through the planned industries is providing an opportunity for the Indian diaspora to get to know the city better.
