Virat Kohli has been referred to as one of the best players by cricket legends

The sportsman carries tremendous burden of expectations in a country where cricket is almost a religion. Virat Kohli, who will turn 28 this year, is termed as the new national sensation, consistently winning hearts of hundreds of millions fans by his brilliant performances with the bat but also as an icon and a trend setter to look up to on social media.

The Indian cricket test team captain, Virat Kohli, who recently scored an unbeaten half century against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, is at the peak of his career. At such a young age, this Delhiite has been referred to as one of the best players by cricket legends.

But Virat Kohli is not just about his sport and what he does on the field. He is also making it big with a lot of advertisements, ramp walks and award shows in his kitty. In 2015, his total earnings amounted to more than Dollar 7 million (4 million from endorsements), making him the third best paid cricketer in the world.

The player is very active on social media platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, where he has 25 million ‘likes’ on his page, and is the new idol and trend setter for the young generation in the country.

In the last 30 years, Indian cricket has produced legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, to name a few. Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, one of the greatest batsmen ever, are worshiped by many and even recognised as the Gods of cricket. Specialists also believe that no sportsman in the country could match their greatness, however, Virat Kohli is now compared to the legends in terms of how he plays the game.

The future of Indian cricket

Even when Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar share similar passion and respect for the game, the two are different when it comes to performance and approach. Virat Kohli is in a different league all together; cricket legends like Sachin faced tough bowlers in their time and Virat has not faced that level of bowlers.

Also, Virat Kohli brings with him a westernised culture; be it the Japanese Samurai tattoo on his arm, a hairdo which gives him a ‘cool dude’ look or a full fitness regime. Having a youthful and charming look, he has always been part of the glamour world.

With a totally different personality and a rougher approach, Virat Kohli is a ‘2.0 champion’.
