Move out of the dries of a desert and in to the curvy alleys of mountains. Stop by at a beach and park by a lake. Visit the various landscapes of New Zealand, which are all just a drive away.
A country with a population of about four million, New Zealand is pleasantly less crowded and there is always a little more room for everyone to explore its wilderness. Located in south-western Pacific Ocean, this island nation is home to snowy mountains, dense rainforests, golden beaches and dramatic geothermal spots, which are all a drive away from each other.
“New Zealand’s key attractions are the mixture of experiences the country has to offer. With glaciers, lakes, beaches, deserts and alps, all within one or two small islands and in close proximity of each other, New Zealand offers some unique travel experiences,” says Steven Dixon, Regional Manager South & South East Asia. “From the top of one island in north to the tip of another island in south, it takes just One hour and 45 minutes by flight, while one can also choose to drive,” adds Dixon.
While the Polynesian nation is putting forth its unique landscapes to prompt travellers to come and visit the country, it is also recommending self drives form one landscape to another to make the experience wholesome.
Kiwis, as New Zealanders are known, rent out camper vans and rental cars for road trips that may last as long the island’s stretch. One can legally drive in New Zealand for up to 12 months with either a current driver’s licence from home country or an international driving permit.
“We see a lot of tourists coming in from India, who rent cars and travel around. In the last year we have had 55,000 Indians come in,” informs Dixon.
The lands to traverse
No matter what your game is – adventure, fishing, photography or arts & culture and food & wine, there is a spot for you to explore on the island while you drive your way through New Zealand’s wilderness.
Of the most recommended road trips is an 11 day trip from Christchurch to Auckland Central, a nine day trip from Auckland to Queenstown, a seven day trip from Auckland to Volcanic Plateau and a seven day trip from Queenstown to Christchurch. There is also a 21 days Ultimate Middle Earth Itinerary, which takes you across famous movie locations , like that of the Hobbiton and Lord of the rings, and also lets you drive to stunning national parks.
While each tour offers some unique experiences, which are included in the drive packages, these can also be experienced individually, while driving in and out of various landscapes.
