The New Delhi World Book Fair in January 9-17 and the Jaipur Literature Festival, January 21-25, are good opportunities to buy books and offer them to underprivileged kids, like the ones Bill Rock Foundation provide schooling to in Laxmi Nagar, in East Delhi.

The kids are taking daily free classes, sitting on the ground, under a bridge in the Laxmi Nagar part of Delhi. They are organised by Bill Rock Foundation, an NGO’s whose goal is to give these underprivileged children a chance to learn and then be able to join a real school.

The kids, from almost babies to young teenagers, are taken care by teachers and the members of the NGO while their parents go to work, some of them in the numerous neighbouring trees and plants farms.

What they need practically is books in Hindi or in English, the kind of books you can buy for few hundred INR in bundles in the New Delhi World Book in January 9-17, in Pragati Maidan. They also could do with volunteers, Indians or foreigners, who can spend time teaching them or even simply singing and interacting with them.

Bill Rock Foundation-NGO is a sister concern of Bill Rock India Services, a company providing a whole range of services to foreign companies in India, from offices to accountancy and consultancy in business and law. The NGO’s main mission is to fight poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and health problems, focusing on specific communities around India.

“Literacy is a great contribution. It creates so many entrepreneurs who play a great role in giving so many occasions for employment. It helps the people to raise their income and attain good standard in their daily life”, says with a big smile Anish C. Mathews, Chairman of Bill Rock India, who set up the NGO.

So if you want to help, just come and read the books you can offer to the kids.
