Festive season sale sees 14 pc YoY growth in order volumes: Unicommerce

E-commerce companies are using technology to manage order returns during the festive rush

In a significant boost for e-commerce, the festive season sale concluded with a 14 pc year-on-year (YoY) increase in order volumes and an 18 pc growth in gross merchandise value (GMV) compared to Diwali 2023, says a report by Unicommerce, an e-commerce company. This strong performance highlights the growing consumer demand across various product categories and the continued resilience of online retail platforms throughout the festive period.

In a press statement, Unicommerce, says that new categories like travel accessories and health devices saw over 100 pc YoY growth in order volumes, while gaming accessories grew by 85 pc YoY during this festive season.

It adds that while the sale offered multiple purchase opportunities, most buying occurred in the initial days, with exciting discounts throughout the month, covering Navratri, Dussehra, Dhanteras, Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.

It further adds that while toys, baby products and kids apparel saw over 50 pc and 30 pc YoY growth, dietary foods, healthy snacks, supplements and kitchenware recorded growths of over 40 pc and 30 pc, respectively.

Unicommerce says that beauty and makeup products also saw a remarkable over 100 pc YoY growth in order volumes this festive season.

It adds that tier III cities outperformed tier II towns with a 36.4 pc market share in order volumes, compared to 23.5 pc in tier II. However, tier I cities and metropolitans held the highest share at 40.1 pc.

The statement adds that brands and e-commerce companies are using technology to manage order returns during the festive rush. Categories like electronics and gaming accessories saw returns drop from 20.5 pc in 2023 to 16 pc in 2024.

It adds that the books segment also saw returns drop from 14 pc in 2023 to 11.5 pc in 2024, while travel accessories returns decreased from 20.2 pc to 18 pc during the same period.

It further adds that e-commerce sales will continue with upcoming events like the Black Friday Sale, Christmas Sale and Year-end Sale.
