Marriott expands footprint in India with 28 new property signings

Marriott International plans to open 14 new hotels in India this year

Leading upscale hospitality firm Marriott International has strengthened its South Asian footprint with 28 deals to add 4,600 rooms to its portfolio in India.

American luxury hotel operator Marriott International says it plans to open 14 new hotels in India this year. In a press statement, the hospitality firm says that following the debut of a Moxy hotel in Bengaluru in January, the upcoming expansion emphasises its commitment to regional market with its diverse portfolio of 160 properties across 17 brands.

Marriott says that the new additions include Marriott properties in Guwahati, Ludhiana, Ayodhya, Shimla and Amritsar. Its sister brand, Westin Hotels & Resorts will open resorts in Hyderabad and Coorg. Meanwhile, Le Meridien will broaden its presence in North India with opening of Le Méridien Jalandhar.

The statement adds that the market is moving towards luxury as 77 pc of the rooms signed by it in 2023 are within the luxury and premium portfolio, up from 48 pc in 2022.

Marriott adds that it plans to open its first Ritz-Carlton at Shimla in May 2029.
