As Goa approaches the final quarter of 2025, the state is witnessing a significant boost in its international connectivity through new direct flights, increased charter operations and enhanced cruise access.

In a press statement, Goa Tourism says that these developments coincide with record-breaking tourism statistics that highlight the state’s rising national and global appeal. Between January and June, Goa received a total of 5.45 million tourists, comprising 5.18 million domestic and 270,000 international visitors, marking an 8.4 pc increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The statement adds that the addition of Manohar International Airport at Mopa alongside Dabolim Airport has markedly improved Goa’s capacity to handle inbound international traffic. Charter flights have also expanded substantially, with notable operations originating from Poland, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, the United Kingdom and Iran.

It adds that scheduled international flights have similarly seen growth, particularly from Gulf countries and Iran, with new direct services poised to commence shortly. These include the resumption of flights to London Gatwick by the end of September and thrice-weekly services from Yekaterinburg in Russia, to Mopa Airport starting from October 5, each with a capacity of about 210 passengers.

Goa Tourism says that complementing air connectivity, Goa is also advancing its cruise operations to facilitate maritime arrivals, thus diversifying international access channels. This multifaceted connectivity strategy is laying firm foundations for Goa’s positioning as a premier global gateway for both leisure and cultural tourism.

“During the 2024–25 season, Goa welcomed charter flights from countries like Poland, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, the UK and Iran. This growth in air access is key to our tourism strategy. Better connectivity brings in wider audiences globally and enables us to promote Goa’s rich offerings beyond the conventional. We are seeing its impact across our local economy and in new tourism circuits being explored,” says Rohan A Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, Government of Goa.

The statement adds that the rising influx of international tourists is reshaping Goa’s destination profile beyond its traditional sun-and-sand image. Visitors increasingly seek diverse experiences ranging from heritage and wellness to adventure and gourmet trails, reflecting a broadening appeal aligned with sustainable and immersive tourism practices. Concurrently, Goa’s hosting of international festivals, conventions, and cultural events is fostering a cosmopolitan cultural ecosystem.

“This past season has demonstrated that connectivity is key to tourism growth. With better air and maritime access, we have been able to welcome more visitors across seasons and from a wider range of source markets. For the upcoming season, we are working on increasing charters and exploring direct connectivity to many other countries as well. These efforts reflect our commitment to expanding Goa’s global tourism footprint and enhancing ease of access for international travellers,” says Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism, Government of Goa.

The statement adds that economically, the growth in international arrivals benefits not only large hospitality enterprises but also local communities, artisans, and small businesses. The tourism department’s commitment to regenerative tourism ensures that economic gains harmonise with community welfare and environmental sustainability.

With ongoing infrastructure enhancements, streamlined airport operations, and proactive promotion, Goa anticipates a strong festive season turnout.

“The increase in international connectivity has been a game changer for Goa. With more direct flights and charter operations, we are seeing a shift in the kind of traveller who comes here, more global, more experiential, and more attuned to what Goa truly has to offer beyond its beaches. This is the kind of tourism growth that strengthens both the industry and the community,” says Ernest Dias, Chief Operating Officer, Travel Corporation India, a leading inbound travel firm.
