Baoli or the stepwells have been quite a part of the culture in Delhi. Built originally as a storage unit of water, these marvelous stepwells were also often used for recreational purposes. Some of the fascinating Baolis that stood the test of time and still stand pretty in Delhi include Rajon ki Baoli, Ugrasen ki Baoli, Gandhak ki Baolis and the Baolis nestled in Purana Quila (Old Fort), Nizamuddin Dargah, Red Fort, and Feroz Shah Kotla. While many are closed to the ral public for preservation purposes, some of them can still be visited.
