Indira Gandhi: India’s Iron Lady

On this day in 1984, Indira Gandhi, India’s first woman Prime Minister, was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguard a few months after she ordered the storming of the Sikh temple, Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar in an attempt to counter the Punjab insurgency.
