Luna 9: First man-made object to land on the Moon

On January 31, 1966, Soviet spacecraft Luna 9, which was the first to make a soft landing on the Moon, was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome. Luna 9 reached the Moon on February 3 and made the historic soft landing the same day.
