The service is aimed at the Indian community in Qatar, providing another channel for sending money to families and recipients in India
India Post and Qatar Post have joined hands to launch a cross-border remittance service that allows users in Qatar to send money to India through the Universal Postal Union’s International Financial System (UPU-IP), integrated with the Unified Payments Interface (UPI).
In a press statement, Ministry of Communications says that the service enables transactions ranging from QAR 10 or INR 262 to QAR 4,000 per transaction. A flat service charge of QAR 15 applies to each transfer.
The statement adds that the service is aimed at the Indian community in Qatar, providing another channel for sending money to families and recipients in India. By linking UPU-IP with UPI, the two postal operators are using India’s digital payments infrastructure within an international postal financial network.

The Qatar-India corridor is also part of India Post’s efforts to expand UPI-linked cross-border postal remittance services. The postal operator is working with counterparts in other countries to establish additional PosTransfer corridors powered by UPI.
The initiative brings postal networks into India’s digital payments ecosystem while expanding the use of UPI for international remittances. For the Indian diaspora, it adds a postal route for transferring funds to India, alongside existing banking and digital remittance channels, says the statement.
