According to a study by Jana, 96 pc smart phone owners in India are using WhatsApp

According to a research by a start up organisation, Jana, approximately 97 pc of smart phone users in India use applications to communicate every day and amongst the apps, the most famous is WhatsApp. According to the study, WhatsApp is the app of choice for 96 pc of them.

Jana also found out that WhatsApp is installed in more devices than Facebook Messenger by 1.7 times and by 2.3 times more than messaging app Hike.

The study also disclosed that though the communication app is popular among people in India, tools that help in sharing documents have the most data usage at 2.3 times more than WhatsApp, with SHAREit, Xender and Zapya being the three top tools by data usage.

Jana serves as an applications market in the countries that are developing to provide free data to users. The study ‘India, a growth opportunity for ad developers’, was positioned on a sampling of Jana’s app users in December 2015. Jana compensates for the data that the users utilize on its mCent app with content sponsored by companies. The reimbursed data can be used to access the Internet without restrictions. The app has around 30 million users, with two-third of them in India.

The study revealed that Facebook and Google compete the most for daily active users (DAU) in India, because apps like WhatsApp Messenger have three times more daily active users than others like UC Browser, Truecaller, Hike, MXPlayer and SHAREit. The top three apps used by people are by Google, which includes YouTube, Google, and Gmail, while the other two are the Facebook Android app and WhatsApp.

In the research, it was also found that with credit card penetration being just 1.7 pc in India, 53 pc of people use a shopping app and prefer to use cash for making in-app purchases.

By February 2016, WhatsApp had a user base of up to one billion, making it the world’s most popular messaging application.
