IN-SPACe and the Karnataka government signed MoUs to establish a Centre of Excellence and a space manufacturing park, boosting Karnataka’s role as premier commercial space launch hub in India.

In a significant move to boost India’s space sector, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) and the Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, have signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in Bengaluru.

In a press statement, the signatories say that this move aims at accelerating Karnataka’s emergence as the country’s leading commercial space launch hub.

The statement says that the MoUs were signed by Ekroop Caur, Secretary, Electronics, IT, Biotechnology and Science & Technology and Lochan Sehra, Joint Secretary, IN-SPACe and lay the groundwork for two major initiatives, to create a Centre of Excellence for Space Technologies in Bengaluru and a public-private space manufacturing park dedicated to next-generation satellite and launch-vehicle production.

According to the statement, the space ecosystem of Karnataka, which includes ISRO headquarters, DRDO labs and major public sector undertakings like HAL, BEL, BHEL and NAL, as well as leading academic and research institutions, positions the state as a natural leader in NewSpace sector in India.

Moreover, the new Centre of Excellence will foster innovation and talent development, while the manufacturing park is expected to anchor advanced production capabilities, supporting both government and private ventures.
