In a move to accelerate hotel industry growth in India, global hotel operator Accor and Indian travel firm InterGlobe Enterprises have announced a new partnership. The collaboration aims to establish the country’s fastest-growing hospitality platform.

According to a press statement, the agreement brings together the global hotel operator and India’s leading travel conglomerate to form an autonomous platform that will manage and expand the Accor brand portfolio across India.

It adds that the alliance sets a target of operating 300 hotels under Accor brands by 2030. The statement adds that the Accor currently operates 71 hotels in India, with 40 more in the pipeline. Through the new platform, the group plans to streamline its operations and significantly scale its presence across all hospitality segments from economy to luxury.

It adds that InterGlobe, best known as the largest stakeholder in IndiGo Airlines, brings experience in aviation, hospitality, logistics, and travel technology to the partnership. IndiGo currently operates over 2,200 daily flights to more than 130 destinations and carried over 118 million passengers last year.

It further adds that India’s growing economy, increasing domestic tourism, and expanding air connectivity present strong growth opportunities for the hospitality sector.

According to statement, the industry remains largely unorganised, with branded hotels comprising a small portion of the total market. The new venture between Accor and InterGlobe aims to capitalise on this gap by building a robust, branded network.

It adds that as part of the collaboration, Accor and InterGlobe will also invest in Treebo, a tech-driven budget hotel platform that manages 800 hotels across 120 cities. Treebo will become the exclusive developer of the Ibis and Mercure brands in India under a master license agreement. It has already signed deals to open 10 new Mercure properties.

It further adds that Treebo’s technology and distribution network will be integrated into the new platform to support Accor’s brand expansion in the economy and mid-scale segments.

The statement adds that the combined portfolio of Accor and Treebo is expected to become the third-largest hospitality player in India, with more than 30,000 rooms.

It adds that the new entity will serve as the exclusive vehicle for developing all Accor brands in the country, including lifestyle brands under Ennismore. Accor will continue to oversee operations and brand management, while the platform works toward rapid growth.
