#LEADER – Jayaram Jayalalitha, one of India’s most colourful and controversial politicians and former actress, has served as the chief minister of south India’s Tamil Nadu state. J Jayalalitha, died in December at the age of 68.

#TEMPLES – India’s Supreme Court finally ruled that temples can’t ban women or restrict their entry because of the stigma associated with menstruation.


#TAX – India’s lawmakers approved the country’s biggest tax reform since Independence, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) that will replace at least 17 state and federal taxes and bring them under one unified tax structure.
