Travel booking platform ixigo has announced a partnership with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to integrate metro ticketing into its ixigo Trains app.

The launch introduces QR-based metro ticketing with seamless in-app payments, enabling faster, more convenient access to India’s largest urban transit network.

According to the officials of ixigo, the collaboration represents a significant step in ixigo’s broader efforts to provide an integrated, end-to-end travel ecosystem across trains, buses, flights, hotels and now city commute options.

For the nearly 8.1 million daily passengers who depend on the Delhi Metro, the addition promises to remove friction from the ticket-booking process.

As part of the launch, first-time users booking a Delhi Metro ticket through the ixigo Trains app can enjoy 100 pc cashback (up to INR 50) as ixigo money, on tickets booked daily between 09:00-11:00.

“We are proud to be launching the Metro Rail Ticketing service with Delhi Metro, powered by the ONDC platform. It is a proud moment because now we are enabling the first mile/last mile ticketing for our travellers who are arriving into Delhi or departing from the city. With about 84 million monthly users and 544 million annual users, a large fraction interacts with Delhi at least once a year,” Aloke Bajpai, Group CEO, Ixigo, told India & You on the sidelines of the event.

“We are already a large player in intercity travel, but this marks our first step into urban commute with Delhi Metro as the starting point. In three words, I would call the partnership exciting, inclusive, and innovative,” Bajpai added.

“In India’s long-distance segment, we hold nearly 60 pc market share. The integration of Delhi Metro brings us closer to travellers’ everyday mobility too. We wanted to bridge the gap between frequent metro commuters and long-distance travellers already using our services. In three words, I would describe this integration as connecting people everywhere,” Dinesh Kumar Kotha, CEO ixigo Trains & ConfirmTkt, told India & You.

With DMRC’s vast ridership and ONDC’s open network framework, the tie-up is designed to give ixigo’s customers a single platform for diverse journeys, from booking an intercity train to stepping onto a metro for the last leg.
