Nolen Gur: The golden jaggery

Nolen Gur, the indigenous date palm jaggery is a common winter delicacy, especially in the Bengali households in east India. This sweet golden-brown liquid is consumed with chapati (flatbread) and also used as an ingredient in traditional desserts. Nolen Gur rasgullas (a syrupy dessert popular in the Indian subcontinent) and Nolen Gur paayesh (rice pudding) are popular amongst those with a sweet tooth.
