New committee to leverage market dynamics of online travel industry

Internet is fast becoming the most frequently used travel consultant in India

As the travel and tourism industry rapidly reshapes its tendencies towards internet penetration and alternate consumer habits, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) introduces a committee to trace an amicable resolution platform.

The FICCI, with its innovative Online Travel and Technology Committee, will function under the guidance of the existing Tourism Committee to be instrumental in outlining a support system for the netizens and the online travel companies. It is evident that the FICCI’s Online Travel and Technology Committee owe its genesis to the rapid penetration of internet and mobile devices which has transformed the way the present travel industry operates. The changing trend of how travellers book and consume travel-related products remains a major point of study and inference for this committee.

The chamber recognizes the changing travel market dynamics and the significant role online travel and technology is playing towards shaping the future travel booking, consumption and distribution trends. Understanding the drivers towards these trends in terms of internet penetration, usage of smart phones and simplification of transaction-supported payment mechanism, the committee will be a key resource podium for new enterprises as well as the early adapters of technology.

Dr A Didar Singh, Secretary General, FICCI said, “The Committee has been formed for outlining the roadmap for a robust regulatory policy for the online travel industry and also to encourage innovation in travel & tourism sector.”

The Committee will be led by Dhruv Shringi, Co-founder & CEO, Yatra Online Pvt Ltd and comprise key stakeholders of online travel companies including MakeMyTrip, Cleartrip and various other stakeholders and knowledge partners from the online travel segment of the tourism industry.
